twin moves to charleston

Typing those words still feels surreal. My twin is moving to Charleston! Moving my life to the south at the beginning of 2018 was a risk, but an intuitive risk at that, and has turned out to be the best risk I have ever taken. At the end of each day I am so grateful to call this place my home, and all along I've known how badly twin has wanted this too. We both knew in our twin hearts that this separation was temporary, with she and her husband living back home, 1000 miles north. I can be brutally honest now and say that at times, I think we both told ourselves and each other that in order to get through. We were never actually certain what would happen next. But we stayed patient and focused, and when the time was right, invisible hands truly made this dream a reality. We believed. And now our final three week countdown begins until we are together again.

Twin and Ben, you deserve 70 degree sunny days in January. You deserve all the hot little biscuits with fiery pimento cheese. You deserve neon southern sunsets that take your breath away. This is your dream come true now.

Get to me.

Forever yours,

Twin

Notes from now

Hello there, 29.

From everything I have just started learning through spiritual guidance, looking back or forward do not lead to fulfillment or joy. (I'd normally use the word "happiness" there, but I'm learning that happiness and joy come from two very different places. Happiness is dependent on outside factors, while joy always comes from within.) Going into my 29th year with this understanding feels like I just discovered a winning lottery ticket. A key to a whole new world...

rainbow road

When most people think of rainbows in Charleston, that dreamy, colorful row of historic homes pops into their mind. I'm pretty happy to have discovered a "rainbow" that's a bit more.... under the radar ;)

Driving on Upper King towards one of my favorite local coffee shops (Harbinger, anyone?!) I saw the happiest crosswalk in the entire world. One of my friends who doesn't even live here had sent me a random photo of it once, and I immediately added it to my never ending list of Charleston to-do's. So when serendipity hit, you could only imagine my array of excitement.

a sunday at the park

It's incredible, how much potential any given sunday can have here in Charleston. From the bubbly brunches to the window box strolls, to picnics in the park, I'd say sundays have quickly become my favorite day of the week. There's something so relaxing and comforting, knowing that everyone in town has the same idea about how to spend their day of rest. (And how that's actually a thing here!)

Southern Spring and a little self love

So. Much. Pink. Hello from sunny, warm, colorful Charleston. Typing that sentence still feels so surreal to me, as I do not take one day of this new and magical journey for granted. This is my life now? That's still setting in. Have there been moments or even days that I have questioned it all? Sure. Have I counted down the "sleeps" until I see twin again, and even booked an impromptu 48 hour trip with no plans but to hug her the whole time? Yes. But with that has come more of a reason than ever to look inward, and to focus on what matters most to me in this life.

Lost in the Right Direction

First off, a big YAY to new year's resolutions. Amidst all the packing and planning, I promised myself I would create this space, no matter how long it took, or how much stress it was going to add to my never-ending "pack up your world and start over" list. (I moved to charming Charleston, South Carolina last week!) I started blogging over seven years ago, and somewhere along the way I let the bustle of life get in the way of something that's been a huge passion and therapy for me. I am so happy to be back here, and starting fresh in more ways than one in 2018.
